MAZELTOV.COM, an event-centric social-network, with a deep-rooted emphasis on charitable giving. The word “Mazeltov!” has been adopted by people of all faiths from around the globe, but for Jews, this word carries with it a rich history and tradition.
Our story started in 1995, when the internet was just beginning to take off. Like many forward-thinking technology buffs at that time, I snatched up the domain name: Mazeltov.com. While having a full-time job, and putting two sons through college, I had little time to devote turning my dream website into a reality. But in the dozen or so years that followed, I never lost my focus or vision of what this social event network could do for the Jewish community and beyond. Then in 2011, with the help of a dedicated and brilliant team of collaborators, we crafted Mazeltov.com into what it is today. With our official launch on Jan. 1, 2013, we became a premier event-focused social-networking site in the Jewish community
One part Facebook, one part Evite, with aspects of Groupon and the Yellow Pages thrown in, Mazeltov.com offers a one-stop shop for planning and celebrating weddings, Bar-Mitzvah’s and other special events. As an integral part of Judaism, we also wanted to include fundraising events and campaigns, extending our gift-giving mission of contributing to Tzedakah in honor of all “simchas” and joys, across the world.
Mazeltov.com’s main goal is to provide people with a central, virtual location, from which to organize and communicate information about an event. For couples planning a wedding, the site can be used to send out electronic invitations to guests, keep track of RSVPs, and provide updates and exchange messages with attendees, and share videos and photos of the big day. The couple also can access a directory of wedding-related businesses to help with their planning. Guests, meanwhile, can shop for gifts while automatically contributing a portion of their spending to charity. They can even send money to the bride and bridegroom via PayPal in an electronic “MazelCard.” The shopping and directory portions of the site are still under development, but we expect rapid expansion as Mazeltov.com gains momentum.
Other features of the site allow you to organize all your event memories as a scrapbook, buy gifts online, ask questions in a forum, and access your videos, photos and discussions related to your events easily, while bringing a smile to your face as you announce your “mazels” to your friends and family.
As Mazeltov.com looks ahead, we are putting our focus into the mobile market. Currently, we are working with a development team in Israel’s “Silicon Valley”, to create a custom app for the iPhone & Android OS. With a new user interface, you will soon be able to create, as well as follow other people’s events, post pictures and video directly from an event, as well as have the ability to send a MazelCard on the go! We couldn’t be more excited that the future of Jewish celebration will be at Mazeltov.com!
