(Scroll down for video) A female New York police officer killed her boyfriend, her 1-year-old son, and then committed suicide, according to police reports in New York.

The crime took place on Monday morning at the woman's apartment on East 56th Street, in the Flatlands neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

Investigators said that the woman, a police officer identified by relatives and friends as Rosette M. Samuel, fatally shot her boyfriend and 1-year-old son, before committing suicide, police said.

However, the officer's 19-year-old son, escaped by jumping through a bedroom window after hearing gunfire, the chief spokesperson of the New York Police Department said.

The son, who had fallen asleep in a back room, called police around 8:30 am and met with the officers who responded to the front of the house, where the family rented an apartment on the first floor.

When police came into the home they found the man, woman and baby, dead from gunshot wounds.
"It was a difficult crime scene," the police spokesperson said.

The boyfriend was identified by relatives as 33-year-old Dason Peters, lived nearby and had planned to take his son, Dylan, to swim in an indoor pool near her home that day.
The boyfriend went swimming every Monday, according to relatives.

Police said that the police officer and the boyfriend were arguing before the shooting, according to a local television news station.

“This is a huge tragedy. I think that police officers should not be allowed to keep their weapons while off duty. Guns should only be used during regular police work. Sometimes, a small argument can spiral out of control with disastrous results,” Tony Crowe, 41, of Brooklyn, New York told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the murder suicide.

Officer Samuel, 43, who joined the police force in September 2000, was recently assigned to the 108th precinct in Queens.
Investigators said that the officer used her service weapon, a Glock 9 mm that she was authorized by the police department to carry when not at work, to commit the horrific crime.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
