A 17-year-old yeshiva student was found dead in his bed, according to police reports in the Israeli city of Elad.

The incident occurred at Yeshiva Kfar Zeitim and the boy was identified by police as Nachman Yaskil. The boy was found unconscious one morning inside his bed. The boy was sleeping in the yeshiva dorm, according to press reports.

Emergency workers were called to the yeshiva when the boy was discovered unconscious in his bed. Unfortunately, paramedics confirmed the death which was the result of cardiac arrest.

An emergency worker working for the organization Ichud Hatzalah, said: "His friends at the yeshiva told emergency workers that the boy has been complaining of feeling sick before he went to bed the night before. Early afternoon, after the boy failed to come out of his room, his friends checked on him and he was found dead."

Police will perform an autopsy to determine the circumstances of the death. Rabbis are working to prevent police from carrying out an autopsy as they claim it is against Jewish law. Jewish law however, permits an autopsy where foul play is suspected.

“It is a terrible tragedy when such a young man dies. I hope police get to the bottom of this,” Motti Weingarten, 19, of Elad, Israel told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the boy’s death.
