The dog who injured the girl |
A boy was arrested and charged with negligence related charges after his dog escaped and attacked a little girl playing inside a playground, according to emergency workers in Israel.
The 13-year-old girl, was moderately wounded in the Israeli city of Be’er Sheva on Saturday afternoon after being attacked by the dog. The girl was with her friend in a neighborhood park when the dog, who escaped from its owner, attacked and wounded her in the face and upper body. The dog has been detained.
Several Magen David Adom rescue workers rushed the injured girl to Soroka University Medical Center in Be’er Sheva.
Police arrested the 14-year-old boy who was walking the dog at the time of the assault on suspicion of negligence and breach of safety guidelines.
“The girl suffered deep cuts to her face, neck and chest,” one of the Magen David Adom rescue workers told a local Israeli newspaper.
"I felt like I was going to die. I thought that I will not see my family ever again. I was so scared," the girl said from the hospital where she is being treated.
“I was able to escape alive after the owner of the dog and bystanders started throwing large rocks at the dog,” the girl also said.
“I think the parents of the 14-year-old should be arrested and charged with negligence rather than the 14-year-old boy. A dog capable of attacking children should not be left in the care of children,” Joan Polk, 29, of Be’er Sheva, Israel told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the arrest.
“This is the first time I feel hatred towards dogs,” the girl told news reporters visiting her in the hospital.
