(Scroll down for video) A man who decided to track down an iPhone thief by himself might rethink such an endeavor in the future after being severely beaten in the process, according to video uploaded to the internet.

Kenneth Schmidgall, a 26-year-old iPhone owner and construction worker from San Diego, California decided to take matters into his own hands when his iPhone was stolen during a reggae concert, recently.

He tried to call his phone several times, but nobody answered. Then he and his friend Greg Torkelson, used iPhone app called Find My Phone, to locate his phone using GPS.

The two tracked down the device and found that it was being carried by a man riding his bicycle. "I saw the gentleman on the bike and I followed him until the guy on the bike stopped," Schmidgall told a local television news station.

Armed with a recording device, the two faced the thief and a fight ensued. The fight lasted about 18 minutes leaving both men bleeding.

"We just wanted the phone back," Torkelson, a photographer, said. "Some of it was a bit of adrenaline, you know, it was the hunt of trying to get the guy," he added.

“I would have also been inclined to chase down the thief who stole my iPhone, but after seeing this video I would definitely let police handle this matter, Mike Clark, 27, an iPhone owner in Hollywood, California told YourJewishNews.com.

"It's not the phone that is so important. It's that people get away with this sort of thing all the time with cell phones being stolen." Schmidgall said.

"I think that this thief learned his lesson. I don’t think that people should go out and get into fights with people because of their cell phones, but there comes a point where you have to stand up for yourself and say, 'This is my matter, and I will not let people get away with this anymore,’" Schmidgall added.
