(Scroll down for video) A homeless man who won the lottery vowed to keep on living in his tent, according to an interview the man gave to a local television news station in Indiana.
Dennis Mahurin has been homeless since about 1978, living in his tent. He said that he plans to stay there despite winning $50,000 from a lottery scratch off ticket.
"I scratched the thing out here in my tent," Mahurin said.
However, the Bloomington, Indiana man has a plan for how he will spend the money. He said he will get himself dental work, will visit his son and pour some of the leftovers into savings.
He is also considering buying himself a new tent, saying he is happy as can be, with no desire to move into a regular home.
After taxes, he will be left with around $35,000. Mahurin also plans to give away some of his new found money.
"With the rest of the homeless around here, I made a decision," he said. "I'll give them $100 each," he added.
Mahurin said he has eight homeless men in mind, he plans to give $100, but jokingly said that he is leaving open the possibility of donating more with all the new friends he will likely be making as his story starts going around.
“I don’t know of any person who donates money after winning $35,000. This homeless man, can definitely use all the money he won for himself, but despite that, he will give away some of the winnings to other homeless people. He must be a very sweet and kind man,” Gregory Lewis, 62, a retired worker in Bloomington, Indiana told YourJewishNews.com.
"He's a very, very nice man. He is one of the sweetest people I've ever met," Emmarie Cross an employee at the Circle K where Mahurin bought the winning ticket, said. "I've been telling everyone, this could not have happened to a nicer guy," Cross added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
