A new poll released recently showed that a large portion of England support a ban on Jewish ritual slaughter, according to press reports in England.
Almost half of the population is in favor of the ban on religious slaughter of animals for meat and almost one third want a ban on male circumcision as well.
Asked whether they support or oppose a ban on religious slaughter, 45 percent backed the ban, 27 percent opposed and 28 percent said they do not know.
When asked about male circumcision for religious reasons, 38 percent supported a ban, 35 percent opposed and 27 percent do not know.
The poll also showed that the younger generation supports a ban in larger numbers than the older population.
“At a time when liberalism is becoming widespread it is surprising to see such a large number of people who support restrictions on religious freedoms. The poll showed us that people are increasingly becoming intolerant of Jews and their practices,” a Jewish community activist in London, England told YourJewishNews.com.
