(Scroll down for video) Seems like tattoos are only meant for people and not dogs.

An army veteran is feeling the heat after he showed off the new tattoos of his beloved dogs, according to press reports in North Carolina.

Ernesto Rodriguez, an Army veteran and tattoo artist in Stokes County, North Carolina, signed his two pit bulls, Duke and Duchess, on their stomachs. The man said that he tattooed his dogs for identification. The four-month-old Duchess was allegedly tattooed while it was asleep after having its ears cropped.

Rodriguez posted a picture of his work on his facebook page for Planet Ink Tattoos and subsequently removed the photos.
Many people are accusing Rodriguez of animal abuse for tattooing dogs. Animal advocate Caleb Scott disputed Rodriguez’s claims that the dog was still asleep when getting the tattoo.

“I can just imagine the pain these innocent defenseless dogs had to endure just because this artist wanted to show off. This is unacceptable,” David Zebrowski, 23, who is an animal rights advocate in Miami, Florida told YourJewishNews.com.
Not everyone agrees though. “If people can get tattoos why can’t dogs get tattoos as well,” Samuel Birchwood, 28, a tattoo artist in Hollywood, Florida told YourJewishNews.com.

All, of this has caught the government's eye.
The health department issued a cease and desist order against Rodriguez.
