A Palestinian police officer is dead after being shot inside the police station he worked at, according to a statement released by the Palestinian Authority.
Tuqu Police said that several masked gunmen shot and killed the police officer on Tuesday, during a raid on its police station, which is located next to the West Bank city of Bethlehem.
The attackers fled from the scene.
The police officer, Naser Brewish Othman, 23, of West Bank city of Hebron, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, and he was transported in critical condition to the Beit Jala Hospital. He died in the hospital’s operating room.
The governor of Bethlehem, Abudlfattah Hamayel, said that the incident was being investigated.
The governor said that the incident might be related to a previous shooting. On Monday, Palestinian police officers shot and killed a man in a nearby village.
The man had died as a result of the shooting, which Hamayel said it was "regrettable.”
