(Scroll down for video) A Christian couple was sued after they refused a gay couple from their hotel, according to court proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Britain's Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an appeal from the devout Christian couple, who ejected two gay men from their hotel room, saying this constituted discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation.

The Christian couple had argued they should not be forced to provide what they consider a sin by allowing unmarried couples to share a bed.

They argued that they discriminated against gays only "indirectly" because they also refused rooms to unmarried heterosexuals.

The court rejected their argument, noting that the gay couple were in a civil union recognized under British law that gives them rights similar to those enjoyed by married heterosexual couples.

Hazelmary and Peter Bull, refused to allow Steven Preddy and Martyn Hall to stay in a double room at Chymorvah House hotel in Cornwall, southwest England, in 2008.

Preddy and Hall took legal action against the Bulls, with the support of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights. A county court and the Court of Appeals ruled that both the Bulls had discriminated against the gay couple.

The Bulls then asked the Supreme Court to overturn the judgment of the Court of Appeals, but the Supreme Court unanimously dismissed their appeal.
