Ryan Smith before and after the accident |
(Scroll down for video) A teen boy was struck by a vehicle and was taken to a hospital.
He remained in a coma for 4 months before he finally woke up.
Ryan Smith, 16, of England, who represented his school and county of Lincolnshire in athletics, loved riding his motorcycle.
However, he did not want to wear a helmet so as not to mess up his hair.
Four months ago, Smith was hit by a truck while riding his motorcycle. He suffered a severe head injury.
Since the accident, he has been in a coma. His father, Mark, 44, and his mother, Julie, 46, were always at his side.
Doctors told the desperate parents that their son might not survive.
Then, one day, the teen opened his eyes, wrapped his arms around his father and spoke his first words in 123 days. "Hello hello mom hello dad,” he said.
“To go from being told he might not survive to holding him in my arms was something I will cherish for ever,” his father, a paramedic, said.
Now, the teen will start a long rehabilitation program so that he could one day walk out of the hospital.
