(Scroll down for video) A school is under investigation after giving children razor blades to harm themselves with “supervision”.

Sterilized blade kits were given to students at the Unsted Park School, so the kids can harm themselves in order to feel good and release stress.

Principal Steve Dempsey and headteacher Laura Blair, are being blamed for introducing the self harm program.

The school in Munstead Park, Surrey, Florida, is run by the Priory Group. The school provides education to children between the ages of 7 and 19, with Asperger syndrome and autism.

Staff members took students to the bathroom and allowed them to cut themselves in what they called "a safe and controlled environment.”

The adults waited outside the bathroom while the students were inside with the razors. The staff member checked in on the students every couple of minutes. When the student was done, the adult took care of the the wound by cleaning and dressing it.

Several staff members protested against the policy, and reported the procedure to local authorities, who shut down the self harm program.

"The program was introduced by the headteacher and school principal who really believed it was in the best interest of student,” a spokesperson for the Priory Group, said.

"However, they accept that the procedure should not have been implemented without further approvals having been obtained from key stakeholders and senior management before its introduction." he added.
