A son of a popular grand rabbi in the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh, was arrested and will be charged with rape after he allegedly raped women when they were alone in their apartments, according to police reports.
Jerusalem Police said that they arrested a 34-year-old man of Beit Shemesh on Sunday, after he was accused of raping a woman. Police said that he gained access to the woman’s apartment by posing as a Ministry of Health employee. He told the woman that he needed to test her gas mask.
The man, who is the son of a popular grand rabbi, waited outside his victims’ apartments until their husbands left for yeshiva.
Police said that so far, at least one woman filed a complaint against the man, and they believe that there are many more victims.
The woman also filed a complaint with the city’s modesty patrol. The local modesty patrol said that the suspect confessed to the rapes.
The man’s defense attorney claimed that his client suffers from a mental illness and urged the court to order a psychiatric evaluation.
The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court remanded the suspect into custody for at least 48 hours, and the court ordered a mental health examination.
