(Scroll down for video) The leading Israeli airline has announced that it is selling international flights for just $69 in order to compete with other low-cost airlines, according to a statement released by El Al Israel Airlines.

El Al launched its new low-cost airline “Up" on Tuesday, offering flights to many European destinations from $69.

The first flight is set to take off in March 2014.

Flights to Prague and Budapest are being sold for $69 one way, while flights to Berlin, Kiev and Larnaca are being sold for $99.

Following the example of other low-cost airlines, the price of a ticket only covers the flight.

"The new brand will allow customers to choose how they fly and what they pay. The most important thing is that the prices are the same for everyone," CEO of El Al, Elyezer Shkedy, said at a press conference.

"We joined the trend of international aviation and major airlines, while being attentive to the diverse preferences of our customers. ‘UP’ allows the customer to build the product and choose what they are paying," he added.
