Total loss car |
A man was arrested and charged with fraud after he sold worthless cars to unsuspecting customers, according to court proceedings in Israel.
Rishon Lezion Police said that they arrested and charged Api Ben Klipa with fraud and aggravated fraud, risking lives, money laundering, breach of trust and tax fraud.
Police said that Klipa restored “total loss” cars after accidents and sold them for full price to unsuspecting customers.
Klipa is a well-known car dealer in the Israeli city of Netivot. He also runs an auto body shop.
He is accused of forging vehicle repair invoices before submitting them to insurance companies. Klipa told insurance companies that certain vehicles are damaged beyond repair and had to be taken off the road, but in reality, he restored those vehicles and resold them.
Klipa is also accused of defrauding the Customs and VAT authorities in Be’er Sheva.
Klipa sold the vehicles without telling customers that they were restored with non original parts.
Prosecutors told a court that Klipa put many lives in danger as the vehicles were not safe to drive on the road.
The Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court remanded the suspect into custody for at least another six days.
