Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes |
An investigation was launched after someone used the derogatory word “schvartze,” to describe the opponent of Charles Hynes in emails that were exchanged with the Brooklyn DA.
Now, the outgoing Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes wants to prove he's not a bigot, and plans to call a special prosecutor to investigate forged emails by an assistant district attorney. The falsification involves a racist email exchange between the DA and a former judge.
Hynes believes that Barbara Burke forged the email exchange between the prosecutor and former judge Sol Wachtler, in which a derogatory Yiddish word referring to a black person was used. Specifically, the email referred to Ken Thompson as a “schvartze.”
An investigation by the DA’s office has concluded that the emails were authored by Burke.
Hynes office now plans to ask a prosecutor out of Staten Island, to further investigate the issue and possibly press charges.
