Until recently, hiring a professional geek was quite expensive, but now, a company is allowing people to rent nerds by the hour.
If you own a so-called mom and pop business and always wanted the luxury of having a consultant on the payroll in order to do tasks such as accounting, to build a mobile media strategy and social accounts, there is a new start-up just for you.
Hourly Nerd.com is an online marketplace that offers MBA students for rent to businesses across the country.
Rates vary from just $10 to $50 an hour.
People with more professional resumes can charge up to $75 to $100 per hour.
The company is the creation of three Harvard Business School students all under 30-years-old.
Rob Biederman, 26, Peter Maglathlin, 27, and Patrick Petitti, 29, said that the idea was born out of necessity.
An MBA can be expensive and students don’t have a lot of time to devote for work.
Meanwhile, small business owners are generally at an interesting turning point in the U.S.
Most mom and pops have reduced costs since the recession to the bare bones. Many have no plans of hiring a traditional consultant.
Main Street needs to expand their business organically again but cannot afford hiring new employees. They certainly cannot afford the help of a consulting firm, accounting or investment banking.
That's where Hourly Nerd.com comes to the rescue.
