A family is devastated after their girl was found hanging in her closet in an apparent suicide, according to police reports in Georgia.
Henry County Police said that a local eight-year-old girl was found hanged on Friday night in what authorities believe could be a suicide.
The girl's father discovered her hanging in a closet in their Locust Grove home a little after 8:00 pm, according to Locust Grove Police Department Chief Jesse Patton. The father immediately called police after the shocking discovery.
The child was pronounced dead at Henry County Hospital on arrival, he said.
No arrests have been made and foul play is not suspected at this time, he said.
"The parents are dismayed and we will give them time to mourn, but we will continue with the investigation," Patton said.
No names have been released. The authorities will conduct an autopsy on Monday, he said.
