Boulder Police said that a local man was arrested on Monday, after allegedly riding a horse while drunk, with a dog, and a gun in his backpack.
Patrick Neal Schumacher, 45, was arrested near the University of Colorado. He was charged with cruelty to animals, prohibited use of weapons, riding while under the influence of alcohol and reckless endangerment.
Witnesses at the University of Colorado told police that Schumacher was wandering into traffic while riding down a busy road. Witnesses also said that Schumacher was beating his horse, Dillon. Schumacher told police that he was only trying to kill a fly on the horse's head.
"Schumacher failed several field sobriety tests," according to a press release from the police. "We found a little gun and beer cans in his knapsack," it said.
According to the press release from the police, the man was traveling from Larkspur, Colorado, to Bryce, Utah, in order to attend the wedding of his brother. He took the horse because he lost his driver's license. Larkspur is about 60 miles from Boulder and about 600 miles from Bryce.
