At age 63, a mayor received his first tattoo.

The mayor decided to demonstrate his civic pride by getting a tattoo of his town’s logo on his right arm.

Chris Murphy is passionate about his job as mayor, so he had the blue and yellow shield permanently tattooed in honor of Stockport, Manchester, United Kingdom.

Above the tattoo is the Latin motto "Animo et Fide," which means “by courage and faith,” which appears in the Stockport Council logo.

Mayor Murphy, a former postman, who was appointed mayor of Stockport earlier this year, will have to keep his new tattoo covered during council meetings.

"I had thought about getting a tattoo for years, but I was afraid of needles. Finally, I did it to raise money for charity and to get rid of my fear of needles," the mayor said.

“It was not as bad as I thought it would be. My thought was that I would go through some pain to raise money for people suffering with much more pain," he added.
