A near record large baby was born at an Israeli hospital this week, and his mother said he is definitely her last child, according to hospital officials at Rambam Medical Center.

The baby, who was born on Tuesday, weighed 6.245 kilos, or nearly 14 pounds.

The baby was born by cesarean section at 38 weeks, and was immediately transported to the neonatal intensive care unit for observation. The baby’s birth weight is equal to that of an 18-month-old child, doctors said.

In the delivery room, doctors were surprised by the size of the baby during an ultrasound after the baby’s weight estimated to be at 5.5 kilos or about 12 pounds.

"This is the second biggest baby I've seen in my 35 years of work here at the Rambam Medical Center," Professor Shraga Belzer, head of the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, said. "It is definitely rare," he said.

Sivan Dabush, the proud mother, 31, said that her two other sons were also born large, but this time she felt that it was over the top.

"In recent weeks I started feeling the baby’s weight more than in previous pregnancies. Now, I can say that this was definitely my last pregnancy," the mother said.
