If you work at a fast food restaurant, you should know that you cannot eat food for free even if it the food was already thrown out.
A Starbucks worker said he was fired after eating a sandwich out of the trash can. Coulson Loptmann, 21, had worked at a Seattle, Washington, Starbucks, for over a year.
One day during his seven hour shift, he was very hungry as he had not eaten all day. He realized that his colleague had thrown out a few sausage sandwiches, which were still wrapped in plastic.
He took one out of the trash and ate it. Turns out that the dates of sale for the sandwiches were already expired and the company was unable to sell it.
A week later, Loptmann’s manager fired him. She said she had learned about the sandwich that he took out of the trash can, and she contacted human resources. "They consider it stealing, and it’s against company policy," she said. She also said she was sorry, but she had to fire him.
Loptmann said that he uses food stamps to make ends meet, and thought it was okay to take the sandwich because it was already in the trash can.
He said he plans to support the fast food strike for higher wages even though he remain unemployed.
