A woman was arrested after she was caught on video smearing feces on her baby’s face and feeding tube.
Lauren Ruth Buzard, 38, of Pennsylvania, is facing charges after hospital surveillance cameras caught her rubbing feces on her 6-month-old baby.
Buzard has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment of a child.The woman was at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh with her infant, when doctors suspected that she might be intentionally harming her 6-month-old son.
Doctors had ordered cameras to be placed in the room and the mother’s shocking act was recorded on video.
The baby had been in and out of the hospital with unexplained illnesses for a while. Doctors could not pinpoint the cause of the illnesses and they thought that the mother was doing something to get the child sick.
According to a criminal complaint, Buzard was seen on video taking a dirty diaper and smearing the feces on the child's face and on his nasal feeding tube. She also seems to dilute the feces and rubbed it onto the baby’s crib sheet, the criminal complaint said. She later told doctors that the baby had vomited.
It appears that Buzard has been harming her son in order to obtain a thorough medical evaluation and care she felt her baby needed, according to the criminal complaint.
The baby is now out of the hospital and he is being cared for by his father.
