Bar Refaeli |
(Scroll down for video) The Israeli Army has slammed the Israeli government for its the decision to appoint Bar Refaeli as Israel’s official spokesperson, according to a letter the IDF sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Recently, a new advertisement campaign was launched by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that promotes the country's advanced technology and features an appearance by the Israeli model in the end.
IDF spokesperson Brigadier General Yoav Mordechai wrote a letter to the Foreign Ministry this week criticizing the decision to use Refaeli in the advertisement because she never served in the Israeli army, a duty required by all Israeli women over 18-years-old.
"I wanted to direct your attention to the negative message Refaeli sends to Israeli society. She did not serve in the Israeli army, therefore, she cannot be the official representative of Israel in a campaign abroad," Mordechai wrote.
"In recent years, the Israeli army has been testing a variety of methods to improve the value of military service and combat military evasion service in order to preserve the moral dimension by which the IDF is the people's army,” the letter continued.
This is not the first time Refaeli has been targeted by the IDF.
She became the subject of criticism in 2007, when she briefly married a family friend to avoid military service. Israeli law exempts married women from serving in the army.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
