Four Israeli yeshiva students were arrested after allegedly destroying an apartment belonging to a prominent rabbi, according to police reports.
Israel police said that they arrested four yeshiva students for questioning on Tuesday, in connection with several vandalism attacks against the Ponevezh yeshiva in the Israeli city of Bnei Brak.
According to police, the four were detained for questioning, and were released under restrictions. The were ordered to stay away of the yeshiva until the end of their court proceedings.
People close to the investigation said that the detainees are suspected of destroying the apartment belonging to a senior rabbi of the Ponevezh yeshiva. The attack on the rabbi’s apartment was caught on video and uploaded to the internet.
An old conflict between two factions, who want control over the yeshiva, intensified last week when a group of thugs attacked Rabbi Shmuel Markovitz and threw him to the floor. After this incident, a group of thugs broke into the apartment of Rabbi Gershon Edelstein and destroyed it.
The city of Bnei Brak is home to nearly 200,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews.
