(Scroll down for video) A woman was roughed up by police instead of getting some medical attention that she so desperately needed.
It all started when a woman went into a diabetic shock and rear ended a truck.
Revina Garcia suffers from diabetes. She uses an insulin pump, which she keeps on her waistband at all times.
One day, when Garcia was behind a truck in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, she hit the truck as a result of a sudden diabetic attack.
When sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they failed to realize that the woman was in need of emergency medical care, instead they ordered her out of her car.
When she did not follow orders and she failed to open the door, an officer broke her car window, pull her out, and threw her to the ground. Then, two officer handcuffed the woman and left her lying on the floor as they walked away. During the whole incident the woman was not moving.
For a diabetic suffering a seizure, if not treated, it could be fatal. Garcia said that she could have easily have gone into a diabetic coma.
In the report, the officer wrote: “I did not detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage, but Garcia seemed to be disoriented.”
When officers finally picked the woman up from the hot pavement she “mumbled something about being diabetic.” That’s when officers realized that something was wrong and they called paramedics.
After reviewing the police surveillance video, Santa Fe County sheriff Robert Garcia said they will educate the officers on diabetes and conduct an internal investigation into the mishandled incident.
