God is dead poster |
(Scroll down for video) A Georgia school vowed not to remove a “God is dead” poster that is prominently displayed on school premises, according to a report by Fox News.
The Georgia high school project has provoked outrage among some students and parents.
Alcovy High School officials will meet with students in order to explain the context behind the sign with the phrase: "God is dead" of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible".
"This made my daughter very uncomfortable," Crystal Mitchell, who is the mother of a student, said.
"My daughter cannot pray in school and they have taken religion out of school. This is now reflected on the walls of the school, and it is a big concern for me," Mitchell said.
The school said that thousands of students read the book every year, and the project is seen as a reflection of the book, and not as a religious statement.
"If it is not appropriate on the classroom wall, where is it appropriate?" Sherri Davis-Viniard of Newton County Schools said.
