A surprisingly large number of little Israeli children own their own cellphone, according to a report by Israel Hayom.

Twenty-five percent of all Israeli children between 6 and 8-years-old have their own cell phones, and 28 person of children between 12 and 14-years-old have their own iPhone, according to a survey sponsored by Pelephone Communications Ltd. The survey was released just before the beginning of the new school year.

The survey surveyed 920 mothers, who have children between 6 and 14-years-old.
Ninety-three percent of the mothers who were polled said they gave their children cell phones for their own peace of mind.

"Each year, the age at which parents equip their children with a mobile device falls," Nirit BenKish, a marketing director of Pelephone, said. "The need for peace of mind and be able to communicate with a child at any time, compels parents to give children their first mobile phone when they enter first grade," BenKish said.
