A man was arrested and charged with drug smuggling related charges after he smuggled drugs into Tel Aviv concealed inside books, according to police reports.
Tel Aviv police said that a 31-year-old man, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of importing drugs from Holland.
Police said that they found the drugs hidden inside books. Investigators suspect that the man has smuggled drugs into Tel Aviv several times in the past. Police obtained a search warrant to search the man’s house where they found marijuana plants and magic mushrooms.
The suspect will be brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing.
This is not the first time that Israeli police found illegal drugs hidden in a weird place. As we reported earlier, an Israeli couple was arrested and charged with drug smuggling related charges after being caught with a large cache of drugs hidden inside the gas tank of their car, according to police reports in Israel.
Israel Police said that 60 pounds of marijuana was found hidden in the gas tank of their car while the couple was making their way across the border from Egypt into Israel. They were arrested on Friday by border patrol agents at the Taba border.
The couple was identified as 27 and 29-years-old of Tel Sheva.
The suspect told police that they were vacationing in the Sinai with their children and were on their way back to Israel on Friday night. At the crossing, security officials discovered 40 packages of a substance that is believed to be marijuana.
The suspects were questioned at the border crossing, and were then handed over to police in Eilat.
A police unit investigating drug smuggling from Egypt and Jordan has seized the drugs and launched an investigation.
“In light of its geographic isolation, Eilat is forced to cooperate with unlikely partners in order to enforce the law and ensure that residents and visitors are safe. Eilat will not be a channel for transporting drugs," Eilat District Police Chief Ron Gertner said.
