A bizarre dispute had erupted between neighbors after a family had installed a handicapped ramp in front of their own single family house.
Vincent and Heidi Giesegh of Fountain, Colorado, have a disabled daughter and asked the city for permission to make their driveway bigger in order to make room for a handicapped vehicle.
They also asked for permission to install a ramp for the use of their daughter. Their request was granted and the family added the ramp. They also expanded their driveway.
The family was delighted that they were able to make the life of their disabled daughter a bit easier. Then, one day, the neighbors began threatening them with legal action if they don’t remove the ramp from their home.
The neighbors are concerned that the ramp will hurt the value of their homes. The Giesegh family is refusing to remove the ramp as they need it for their 16-year-old daughter Kirsten, who has cerebral palsy.
"It's a little unnerving, we're trying to do our best to help our daughter with her daily needs to get in and out of the house," the girl’s father said.
The Giesegh family has contacted the Rocky Mountain American Disability Center for help.
