(Scroll down for video) A man called police after he could not find his girlfriend during an early morning swim.
Daren James Nailos, 36, frantically called police on Friday around 4:45 am to report that his girlfriend, Jessica Frehe, 36, had disappeared in the water next to the Dunedin Causeway in Florida.
Fearing the worst, Nailos told the responding officers that he had been swimming in the water with Frehe when he had lost sight of her, deputies said.
After performing a search and rescue operation near the Dunedin Causeway, Pinellas County deputies received several calls that a yacht and vehicles having been broken into in the area of the search, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
While the rescue teams were searching for the missing woman, a deputy in the area saw a car driving away from the scene. The deputy pulled the car over and discovered that Frehe was driving the car with another person.
After interrogating the couple, deputies discovered that the pair had broken into the yacht and stole various items along with alcohol, investigators said.
It turns out that after the two had broken into the yacht they began swimming back to shore with the items they stole. It was then that Nailos lost sight of Frehe and called police to help locate her in the water.
Deputies said the two have confessed to stealing from the yacht and deputies are now awaiting the forensic results for additional charges in the theft of nearby vehicles.
Both were arrested and charged with burglary.
