(Scroll down for video) A family was left with a lot of questions after their son found a mummy in his grandmother’s attic.
The 10-year-old boy has found what appears to be a mummy hidden in a corner of the attic at his grandmother’s house.
The mummy was inside a sarcophagus complete with ornaments packed in a wooden box.
But it is unclear if the element, found by the boy named Alexander Kettler of Diepholz, Northern Germany, is an authentic relic of ancient Egypt. The boy’s father, Lutz Wolfgang Kettler, who is a dentist by trade, said he has not done an X-ray of the mysterious item. Instead, he will leave it up to the experts to make the determination.
Along with the mummy, they also found a box, which contained a mask and a canopic jar, used by ancient Egyptians to store removed organs. Kettler believes that the sarcophagus and jar are not real, but he said that there is a big possibility that the mummy itself is real.
Kettler is planning to drive to Berlin to have the mummy examined by archaeological experts. Kettler said that his father traveled to North Africa in the 1950s. At that time, there was still a trade in genuine mummies. He believes that his father may have brought this unusual souvenir back with him from North Africa.
When asked if the mummy smelled bad, Kettler said no. The family believes that the mummy had been it the attic, untouched, for at least 40.
