(Scroll down for video) Ultra-Orthodox Jewish Knesset members walked out in protest during Netanyahu’s speech while yelling disparaging remarks, according to video uploaded to the internet.
MKs from United Torah Judaism yelled and interfered with a speech by given by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to present his new government to the Knesset.
As Netanyahu read out the names of his ministers, deputies from UTJ stood up and started screaming. MK Yisrael Eichler yelled at Netanyahu that "Jews do not expel other Jews of the Knesset.” Eichler was referring to demands from Yesh Atid that Netanyahu exclude ultra-Orthodox Jews in exchange for joining the coalition.
The deputies then went on strike and left, returning only after Netanyahu had finished speaking..
In response to the protests, the president of the new Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, said he would not tolerate such behavior during the Prime Minister's speech, and planned to take punitive measures against members of the Knesset that interfered with Netanyahu.
Speaking for UTJ in the session of the Knesset, MK Yaakov Litzman said he feared the worst from the new government. During a meeting earlier in the day, Yair Lapid, said his party would become the best friend the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community had in the Knesset.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
