Rabbi Nissim Karelitz |
A revered ultra-Orthodox Jewish rabbi issued a radical ruling saying that it is permitted to steal non kosher smart phones.
The rabbi also ruled that there is no need to return a lost non kosher smart phone to its rightful owner.
The ruling came following an incident that took place in a bakery in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Israeli city of Bnei Brak, where a saleswoman refused to return a stolen smart phone to its owner. The incident provoked a debate on social network sites about whether the sales woman had violated the "Do not steal" commandment.
The new ruling was issued by Rabbi Nissim Karelitz. The ruling states that non kosher cell phones are not considered property. Therefore, it does not need to be returned to its rightful owner, according to the Torah.
