The defendants in court |
Seven men were arrested and charged with murder related charges for killing an Israeli soldier after the soldier went on a shooting rampage on a bus, according to court proceedings in Israel.
Now, the Haifa District convicted four of the seven defendants prosecuted for the killing of Eden Natan Zada of attempted murder, while two others were convicted of aggravated assault and one defendant was acquitted.
"No self-respecting society would tolerate such killings, even if the person has committed a heinous crime," the panel of judges said in a joint statement. "Vengeance belongs to God and punishment is for the judiciary. Our hearts are with the families of the victims, who have lost loved ones due to this heinous crime criminal," judge Ilan Schiff said. "We find it difficult to understand how a person decides to take so many lives and cause so much suffering to innocent families," the judge also said.
Natan Zada was beaten to death by a mob in Shfaram after going on a killing spree in the northern Arab city, killing four people and wounding 22 others on a city bus.
According to the indictment, each of the defendants assaulted the soldier, who was lying on the floor, with stones and iron bars.
