(Scroll down for video) Would you like to receive a tweet when your bread is perfectly toasted? Now you can, according to video uploaded to the internet.
A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania man has connected a toaster to his Twitter account so that the toaster can tweet “toasting” and “toast done” automatically, every morning.
Despite the fact that his Twitter account tweets just that, it has gained over 2,000 followers.
Hans Scharler made the tweets possible by using the ioBridge module, a device designed by his friend Jason Winters, who helps developers connect several projects to the Internet.
Tweeting Toasters may not have been the type of project Winters had in mind, but Scharler made it come true.
First, Scharler glued a switch to the outside of his toaster that detects when the slider is pressed down and the toaster turns on. It also detects when the slider pops back up to indicate that the bread has completed toasting. Scharler then connected the switch to the digital input of ioBridge with a terminal board and some alligator clips.
Back on the ioBridge website, Scharler established a widget that controls the input of his device. He uses the site preferences option to send alerts to his Twitter email when the ioBridge module receives updates.
