A man was found by firefighters stabbed to death outside a burning house, according to emergency workers in Israel.
Fire officials said that a fire broke out earlier in a residential building in the Ein Ganim neighborhood of Petah Tikva. When firefighters arrived at the scene they found a man, 40, dead on the floor with apparent stab wounds. Magen David Adom paramedics, who arrived at the scene, gave him medical treatment, but he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police began investigating whether the fire and the stabbing incidents are related.
Firefighters arrived at the apartment where the fire broke out and found the door locked. They broke down the door. Nobody was inside the apartment. After an initial investigation on the scene, a police official said that the most likely cause of death was the fire rather than the stab wounds.
The victim’s wife was at the scene and witnessed the event. Police are currently questioning the wife in order to determine whether a dispute arose between them that caused the victim to hurt himself. On the third floor of the building, a man, woman and a baby were injured from smoke inhalation. They were transported to Beilinson Hospital.
"We arrived and immediately diagnosed the victims as suffering from smoke inhalation," a paramedic at the scene said.
The paramedic added that the medical team attempted to revive the man for 45 minutes, but to no avail. "When his wife arrived I notified her that he is dead," the paramedic said.
A Fire spokesperson said that fire broke out on the second floor of the building and spread to the third floor.
