A man was arrested, charged and convicted of sexually abusing numerous boys at Yeshiva College in Australia, according to court proceedings.
Now, the court has sentenced the man to 3 years in jail.
Australian Prosecutors said that a Jewish rabbi, who molested four children at Yeshivah College of Melbourne over 20 years ago, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
David Kramer, 52, could be out of jail in 100 days. He was sentenced to a non-parole period of 18 months, but has already served 457 days in pre-sentence detention.
Kramer was sentenced in the Melbourne County Court by Judge Michael Bourke of five counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child under 16 years.
Outside court, a survivor of sexual abuse and activist Manny Waks said the sentence was "a little lower than we expected, but justice has been done. The fact that Kramer could be out of jail in 100 days will take us some time to digest. It caught us off guard.”
All the victims were 10 or 11-years-old and Kramer abused them by stroking their genitals through their clothing, the judge said.
Yeshivah College Principal, Rabbi Yehoshua Smukler, issued a statement Wednesday afternoon in response to the sentence.
“Yeshivah College sincerely regrets and unreservedly apologizes for not informing the police when the allegations surfaced. If the allegations arose today, we would report it immediately to the police and the relevant authorities," Rabbi Smukler said.
Rabbi Smurkler said his school now employs best practices and is committed to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable members of our community, our children.
