An orthodox Jewish man died after he saved his two children from drowning at an Israeli Mediterranean beach in Ashdod, according to emergency workers.
Zaka officials said that a 45-year-old Beit Shemesh man, Simon Samuel Abraham, who went with his family to enjoy the beach in Ashdod, drowned Sunday night after swimming into the sea to save his teens from being swept out to sea. Rescuers, who arrived at the scene on Lido Beach, found the man's body washed up on the shore, but could not revive him.
The ultra-Orthodox Jewish father of six, was swept out to sea while trying to save his 15 and 16-year-old children, who were sinking in the water. The boys were rescued from the water unharmed. They said their father pushed them to shore before being dragged under the waves.
There were no lifeguards on duty at the time of the drowning. Officials said that the family was swimming at the beach after hours when the lifeguards already went home for the day.
