(Scroll down for video) Parents was left mourning the loss of their daughter after she was run over by her uncle.
What was supposed to be a happy time for the family, turned into a tragedy, when a 2-year-old was killed while the family was preparing for her birthday party.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a toddler was run over and killed in a tragic accident. The driver was her 16-year-old uncle, who does not have a driver's license.
The accident happened in Apopka, Florida in the driveway of the family’s home.
Troopers were called out to the home around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators said Luis Martinez, 16, had just finished mowing the family's lawn. He was cleaning the yard to get it ready for his niece's upcoming birthday party.
Troopers said Martinez decided to back up a silver Ford Expedition just a few feet to clean grass, when 2-year-old Amaris Martinez, wandered behind the vehicle and was killed.
Martinez has not been charged with a crime. Troopers said the accident is still under investigation and even though the teenager does not have a driver's license, he may not have been committing a crime, since he was operating the vehicle on private property.
"Honestly, I don't know how it could have been prevented in this situation other than just check and double-check," officer Kristen Neutzling said.
