"The Bible" Satan |
(Scroll down for video) A new controversy has broken out just as President Obama is setting off for his trip to the Middle East.
Many people believe that the Satan character in “The Bible” was made to look like President Obama, according to press reports in the United States.
The Prince of Darkness is actually portrayed by Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni, who bears a striking resemblance to the commander in chief, thanks to makeup and some digital effects.
It is an interesting point, and one that is not totally unfounded. Is this a mere coincidence, or are the creators of the program trying to imply something? The History Channel issued a statement Monday that rejected the idea.
"History Channel has the greatest respect for President Obama," the network said. "The series was produced with a diverse international cast of actors. Shame on that person who made the false connection. 'The Bible' is meant to enlighten people on their rich and deep history."
“The Bible” is produced by the husband-and-wife team Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. Burnett, however, also donated to Obama's presidential campaign in 2008.
Burnett and Downey also issued a statement saying they "have nothing but respect and love" for Obama, "a Christian."
"This makes no sense," said the statement. "The actor who played Satan, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He previously played in several parts, including biblical epics satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our president."Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
