Child advocates are fuming after an Orthodox Jewish school principal helped shield an admitted child molester from police, according to court proceedings in Australia.
The principal of a Jewish school refused to report a teacher who admitted molesting students to the police because he was concerned for his welfare, the court in Australia has heard.
Rabbi David Kramer, 52, pleaded guilty to molesting four children while teaching at the ultra-Orthodox Jewish Yeshiva College in the 1990s before fleeing to the U.S. Kramer was ultimately jailed in the U.S. for sexually assaulting children in the United states.
The court heard today that the father of two of the victims filed a formal complaint to the then yeshiva director Rabbi Abraham Glick. However, Glick refused to take immediate action.
"The defendant admitted to sexually abusing some of the children, but said that the complainants enticed him," prosecutor Brett Sonnet told the court.
"Rabbi Glick told the father of the victims that he did not intend to immediately suspend the accused because he was concerned for his welfare," the court was told.
Victims' groups have demanded that Rabbi Glick immediately quit his position in the yeshiva.
Glick still plays a major role in the yeshiva.
The court heard after several more victim complained the school moved to stop teaching Kramer.
The court also heard that an executive member of the school helped Kramer flee to Israel paid for by the yeshiva.
After fleeing to Israel Kramer returned to the U.S., where he was later sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a student, 12, at the University of Missouri.
Kramer pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault and one count of committing an indecent act with a person under 16-years-old.
