The cash that police found |
(Scroll down for video) A police officer couldn’t believe his eyes when he discovered a stash of $360,000 hidden inside a vehicle during a routine traffic stop, according to police reports in Mississippi.
Meridian Police said that on Tuesday, an officer stopped a driver for a routine traffic violation. "After suspecting that there might be some kind of criminal activity, the officer asked the driver for consent to search his car," a police spokesperson said.
"During the search, the officer found a secret compartment in the car containing $364,590 in $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills," Dean Harper for the Meridian Police Department said. Police refused to reveal where the money was located.
A Meridian bank official confirmed that it had counted the money and it was not fake. The money is now being kept in a bank vault, Harper said.
"We are in the process of investigating where this money has come from. Once we gather this information, the case will be examined by the Circuit Court of Lauderdale County," Harper said. "The driver of the vehicle was questioned and is cooperating with police," he said. Harper refused to reveal the name of the driver.
The driver of the car has not been indicted or charged, according to a spokesperson for the Circuit Court of Lauderdale County.
