In a shocking discovery a Palestinian man found a stash of Israeli ID cards dumped in the trash, according to a report in Haaretz.
Israel Police said that more than 120 Israeli identity cards were found tossed in a dumpster near an Interior Ministry office in central Jerusalem this week.
Police have launched an investigation, along with the Population, Immigration and Border Authority, as those identification cards are worth a lot of money on the black market. Police said they are sought after by both criminals and terrorists.
The ID cards were found by a Palestinian homeless man, who was collecting beverage containers in order to cash in on the deposits.
Around midnight Wednesday, while searching for bottles in a dumpster on Koresh Street outside the West Jerusalem office of the Interior Ministry, the man, 41, saw the identity cards. He began to collect them. Then, he became anxious, so he consulted with an Israeli friend. The friend told him to take the ID cards to the police, which he did yesterday.
In total, the man found more than 120 ID cards. Some of the covers were torn, but the others were in perfect condition.
