Tel Aviv water fight |
(Scroll down for video) The water was splashing everywhere after thousands of people took part in Tel Aviv’s annual water fight, according to video uploaded to the internet.
Thousands of young excited people filled Rabin Square in Tel Aviv on Friday afternoon. The world has spent last week watching young and restless Egyptians and Turks coming out in their squares to protest, but the scene in Tel Aviv’s square was totally different.
The usual loud Israelis took to the streets of Tel Aviv for some wet and wild action.
The annual water fight is a recent summer tradition that takes place the first Friday of July.
The activity has grown exponentially during the last eight years. The first event began in 2004. Five years later, in 2009, not many people participated as the Israel Water Authority warned that the activity was a waste of water since the country was suffering from a severe drought.
This year, thanks to the powerful capabilities of Facebook and Twitter, over 7,000 water warriors from around the country arrived to participate in the party, wearing bathing suits, wet suits or clothing that they were willing to get wet in. A lot of people wore silly costumes. On the balcony overlooking the square where Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin spent his last hours, cheerful participants dropped water balloons on unsuspecting passerby below.Mobile video not loading?
