A man, who was arrested, charged, convicted and jailed after raping a little girl of the Haredi community, has decided to appeal his 3 year prison sentence, according to court proceedings in the United Kingdom.
As we reported earlier, a man was arrested, charged and convicted of rape related charges after raping an ultra-Orthodox Jewish girl, 14, in London, England, according to court proceedings in the United Kingdom.
Now, the man has been sentenced to three years in jail.
The man, Menachem Levy, 41, of Princes Park Avenue, in London, was convicted last month of indecent assault of a female under the of 16 after a trial in the Wood Green Crown Court.
Levy first raped the victim when she was just 14-years-old when he visited her family home in Hendon.
He then subjected her to a series of sexual assaults in other places, including Levy’s home.
Levy told the girl that she can blame no one but herself for the rapes.
Levy and the victim are members of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community.
Several years ago, the victim wrote a letter asking Levy to admit and apologize to her in front of a rabbi, but Levy refused to apologize claiming that the girl was at fault.
After refusing to apologize, the victim had the courage to report the crimes to the police, and detectives from the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation.
"You abused your position and you abused the victim,"Judge James Patrick said.
“You are a working family man, but also arrogant and manipulative,” the judge also said.
Levy, who is a married father of six children, had claimed that the rape was part of an extramarital affair that took place when the girl was over the age of 16.
His second wife, who is pregnant with his child, has stood by him and attended the court session for sentencing.
Many Levy supporters were also present in court. His lawyer, Tania Griffiths, read numerous letters of support, including several letters from rabbis. The letters described Levy as a new man and a man of great compassion.
Judge Patrick rejected the suggestion that Levy should receive a lighter sentence because he had always admitted that he had a sexual relationship with the underage girl.
"You seriously abused your friend’s child, and the trust they have placed in you. Now, you must pay the price," the judge said.
