A Jewish woman has filed a lawsuit against the New York Police Department after being searched in an immodest way, according to a lawsuit filed in a New York court.
The Millburn, New Jersey woman has filed the lawsuit against the Police Department of New York, alleging that the officers violently detained her on a Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York street, threw her against a car and conducted an improper search.
Samantha Rosenbaum, a 22-year-old Bard College graduate said in her lawsuit filed this week in federal court in Brooklyn that she was thrown against an unmarked police car in broad daylight.
According to the lawsuit, a policewoman also opened Rosenbaum’s clothes and looked inside her bra and panties.
At the time of the incident, Rosenbaum was interning at Vaute Couture at Grand Street, a vegan clothing store. Rosenbaum was on her way back to the store when she unexpectedly ran into the officers.
When an undercover agent yelled at her, she started to walk away and was quickly grabbed by officers, thrown against the car and asked if she was in possession of drugs.
"I do not think anyone, no matter what color they are, deserves to be treated like that," Rosenbaum, who is white, said.
The New York City Law Department spokesperson, Kate O'Brien Ahlers, said that the city would assess Rosenbaum’s claim.
