(Scroll down for video) An Idaho teacher, who allowed her students to draw on other students’ faces because they didn't meet their goals, just received a new teaching contract.
A school board member said that the teacher will teach again at the Declo school, next fall.
Cassia County school board member Steve Lynch said that the contract of Summer Larsen was renewed based on the evaluations by the school principal Rebecca Hunsaker, who recently retired.
The school district filed a complaint against Larsen with the Professional Standards Commission of the Department of Education, last year against the teacher for implementing the abusive punishment. Department of Education spokesperson Melissa McGrath said that no formal disciplinary action was taken against Larsen.
An investigation found that nine students, who do not meet their reading goals, were allowed to choose between staying in the classroom at recess or having their faces marked. Three chose to forgo recess while six chose to have their faces marked. That is when several students marked the students’ faces as their punishment.
