"The retarded child" receipt |
A family was shocked after receiving a receipt from a Jerusalem cafe in which the store employee wrote “retarded child”, according to a statement released by the Jerusalem cafe in Israel.
A young couple, Hadas Bendel and Lior Sultz, told an employee at the Jerusalem cafe “Hamakom Shel Itzik”, that Sultz is allergic to pine nuts. "Yesterday at around 9:00 pm, we arrived at this cafe. We really like the place and we eat their a lot, but, we were never served by the waiter who wrote the offensive comment,” Bendel said.
“We made sure to tell the waiter several times that I am allergic to nuts, and that I have been hospitalized twice after suffering from an allergic reaction to nuts. The waiter was nice and everything was fine, until we got the bill. On the bill, the waiter wrote ‘the retarded child who is allergic to nuts,’” Bendel also said.
“At first we laughed, but then we got angry. How can the employee refer to a customer with an allergy like that, especially after the recent case of a woman, who died after eating chocolate and nuts. We paid our bill, wrote on the receipt ‘the retarded waiter did not get a tip', and we left,” Bendel said. Sultz was sick all night and vomited several times.
Isaac Jacob, the cafe owner, said: "As a business owner for the past ten years, I was shocked at what the employee wrote. I ordered him to apologize to the couple and he was fired.”
