(Scroll down for video) A dramatic movie type prison escape occurred at a prison in Canada, according to prison officials in Canada.
Two inmates in a Quebec prison climbed up a rope to a helicopter to make a daring daylight jailbreak Sunday from a prison northwest of Montreal, authorities said.
Quebec provincial police later said they had arrested three people about 50 kilometers or 30 miles north of Saint-Jerome prison from which the inmates escaped. One of those arrested was 36-year-old inmate Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau.
Authorities on Sunday night located the second inmate after a security perimeter has been set up around the area where 33-year-old Danny Provencal was found.
Quebec provincial police Sergeant Benoit Richard said that officials were in contact with Provencal and have surrounded him in a complex near where the other three were arrested.
"We are still in negotiations and we will see what happens," Richard said. "He is in a compound, we are in contact with him and we are trying to find a peaceful solution," he added.
Earlier on Sunday, police received a call from the jail staff of Saint-Jerome, reporting the break around 2:20 pm, Richard said.
The jail warden told police that Hudon-Barbeau and Provencal had grabbed a rope from the helicopter to their getaway, Richard said.
Quebec provincial police located the helicopter used in the escape on Sunday afternoon at Mont-Tremblant, about 53 miles or 85 kilometers away from prison, but only the helicopter pilot was still at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital and was treated for shock, Richard said. He called the pilot a material witness in the case.
Yves Galarneau, a correctional services manager who oversees the prison of Saint-Jerome, said he had never seen anything like the dramatic escape in more than three decades on the job.
Galarneau said there are no security measures in place to prevent a helicopter descending from above.
"To my knowledge, this is the first time in Quebec," he told reporters at the scene. "It's exceptional," he added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
